“हरियाणा सरकार का बड़ा फैसला”The Haryana government has implemented the ‘Grant Provision for Horticultural Crop Cultivation’ scheme to promote horticulture in the state and increase farmers’ income. A spokesperson for the Horticulture Department, Haryana, while providing detailed information in this regard, stated that the government is providing heavy subsidies to the farmers of the state for cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices, and aromatic plants. Under this scheme, application and grant limits have also been determined, according to which a maximum benefit for up to 5 acres can be availed for establishing new fruit orchards and cultivating spices. Meanwhile, for vegetable cultivation, general category farmers can avail benefits up to a maximum of 5 acres and scheduled category farmers up to 1 acre, whereas for flowers and aromatic plants, this limit is set at up to 5 acres. Elaborating further on the grant amount, the spokesperson informed that farmers will be given a grant ranging from ₹24,500 to ₹1,40,000 per acre for establishing new orchards. For vegetable cultivation, a grant will be provided at the rate of ₹15,000 per acre for the general category and ₹25,500 per acre for the scheduled category, which will be payable only upon adopting integrated models such as mulching, low tunnels, drip, or bamboo staking. Similarly, a grant provision of ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per acre has been made for spice cultivation, ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 per acre for flower farming, and ₹8,000 per acre for aromatic plants. To ensure transparency, the entire grant amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiary farmer’s bank account. The spokesperson further added that to avail the benefits of the scheme, registration on the ‘Meri Fasal-Mera Biyora’ portal and ‘Hortnet’ is mandatory. Along with this, applicants must possess personal details, Family ID (Parivar Pehchan Patra), complete bank account details (account number, bank name, branch, and IFSC code), and a caste certificate for the scheduled category if required. Appealing to all interested farmers in the state to make maximum use of this scheme, he stated that for detailed information, farmers can contact their respective District Horticulture Officer or call the toll-free number 1800-180-2021. SLSVIH/2026 Awareness on Breastfeeding: Women and Child Development Department Issues Special Guidelines for Optimal Health of Mother and Child Chandigarh, September 28 – A special ‘Breastfeeding Awareness’ campaign is being conducted by the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Haryana, with the objective of promoting better health and nutrition for newborns and mothers. Providing information in this regard, a departmental spokesperson stated that mother’s milk is a child’s first vaccine, first meal, and first love, which plays a vital role in the overall development of the child. He mentioned that breastfeeding is beneficial not only for the child but also for the mother’s health. Highlighting the benefits to the mother, he said that breastfeeding helps the uterus return to its normal size faster, reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, assists in weight loss, and strengthens the emotional bond between mother and child. Furthermore, it is also economically helpful, as mother’s milk is always clean, safe, and easily available. Mentioning its benefits for the child, he shared that it provides natural immunity to protect the child from diseases, aids in brain development, and offers every nutrient in the required proportion. It is easily digestible, reducing the risk of allergies, diarrhea, and infections, and is always available as a safe and ready meal. The spokesperson shared detailed guidelines regarding when and how breastfeeding should be done. He stated that breastfeeding should be initiated immediately after birth, i.e., within one hour. After this, the baby should be fed exclusively mother’s milk for the first 6 months. Upon completing 6 months, breastfeeding should be continued alongside the introduction of adequate complementary foods, and can be sustained until the child is 2 years of age or older. Offering essential advice for breastfeeding mothers, the spokesperson said that mothers themselves should consume clean, nutritious food and plenty of fluids. Along with this, taking complete rest, staying away from smoking, alcohol, or any substance abuse, and washing hands thoroughly before breastfeeding are crucial. He also appealed to family members to provide full support and encouragement to breastfeeding mothers. Delivering the message, “Mother’s milk is priceless — adopt it, secure the child’s future,” the spokesperson stated that for any assistance or information, one can contact the Women Helpline number 181 or the Child Helpline number 1098. Patiala (Press Ki taquat Bureau) : On the occasion of World Environment Day, Sh. Alok Shekhar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Science, Technology and Environment released 10000 PPE Coverall kits costing Rs 40 Lacs, provided by Punjab Pollution Control Board for distribution amongst the Govt. Health care facilities of the State under the GEF-UNIDO-MoEFCC Project on Environmentally Sound Management of Medical Wastes.

On this occasion, a webinar was jointly organized by Punjab Pollution Control Board and Pushpa Gujral Science City which was also streamed on YouTube Channel. Prof. SS Marwaha, Chairman, PPCB and Er. Krunesh Garg, Member Secretary, PPCB were also present. Dr. Neelima Jeerath, Director General, Pushpa Gujaral Science City hosted the webinar. Around 100 students across the State along with Officers & Industrialists  participated in the webinar.

While giving inaugral address during the occasion, Sh. Alok Shekhar expressed that Human actions, including deforestation, encroachment on wildlife habitats, intensified agriculture, and acceleration of climate change, have pushed nature beyond its limit. If we continue on this path, biodiversity loss will have severe implications for humanity, including the collapse of food and health systems. The emergence of COVID-19 has underscored the fact that, when we destroy biodiversity, we destroy the system that supports human life. Nature is sending us a message which we need to decode and take collective action. He brought out that management and treatment of biomedical waste generated from Covid-19 patients in this stage of pandemic is of utmost importance. In the state of Punjab there are five common biomedical waste treatment facilities authorized for collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of biomedical waste. Around 105 tons of Covid-19 biomedical waste has so far been collected and treated by 5 common biomedical treatment facilities in the state.

Speaking about the impact of COVID-19 on Environment & Bio-Resources, the Chairman PPCB Dr. Satwinder Singh Marwaha said that theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “Bio-diversity” and the slogan is “Time for Nature”.  Further he said that it has become more important to Nurture the Environment at this time when the entire world is fighting the pandemic COVID-19. Nature provide us Food to Eat, Air to Breathe and Water to drink which represents the environment one way or the other. Dr. Marwaha also stressed the need to improve quality of river water as industries were not only the source of water pollution but also the domestic waste was a significant polluter. Closing of industries and ban on transports due to corona virus had a greater positive impact on air pollution than on water pollution. He also urged the participants to sensitize the people especially the farming community not to burn stubble/crop residue, which not only damage the soil texture by affecting its fertility besides polluting the environment as well as causing harms to human health.

During the occasion Shri. J. Justin Mohan, Secretary National Biodiversity Authority, Govt of India spoke about regulatory framework of biodiversity management in India and Dr. Chandrika Bahadur, Director, SDG Academy spoke on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. PGSC also organized Poetry and Declamation competitions at the occasion which received an overwhelming response from students and general public.
