Ahmedabad : Umesh Makwana, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Botad for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced his resignation from all party positions on Thursday, emphasizing his intention to remain an active member of the party led by Arvind Kejriwal. He is anticipated to hold a press conference soon to elaborate on his decision. In a resignation letter addressed to Kejriwal, written in Hindi, Makwana reflected on his two-and-a-half-year tenure as the National Joint Secretary of AAP and his role as the Chief Whip in the Gujarat Assembly. He cited a decline in his capacity to participate in social service as the primary reason for stepping down from his official roles, while expressing his commitment to continue contributing to the party at the grassroots level. This development poses a significant challenge for AAP, particularly as it follows the recent announcement of by-election results for five assembly seats across Gujarat, Punjab, West Bengal, and Kerala, which had initially bolstered the party’s morale. Notably, Gopal Italia from AAP secured victory in the Visavadar seat in Gujarat, highlighting the mixed sentiments surrounding the party’s current standing in the region.
