Chandigarh, May 27 (Ozi news desk): The Election Department has updated the voter turnout for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Haryana to 64.8 per cent, marking a 0.6 per cent increase from the initial figures. This turnout, however, is the lowest since 1999, when the voting percentage stood at 63.68.
In the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the voter turnout was 65.72 and 67.46 per cent, respectively. The numbers saw a significant rise in the 2014 parliamentary elections, reaching 71.45 per cent when Narendra Modi assumed power. In 2019, the voting percentage slightly dropped to 70.34.
The highest polling percentage in the recent elections was observed in the Sirsa parliamentary constituency at 69.77, where candidates from BJP and Congress were in a head-to-head contest. Ambala followed closely with a 67.34 per cent turnout, with candidates from Congress and BJP competing against each other.
Kurukshetra recorded a 67.01 per cent voting rate, with candidates from BJP, INLD, and AAP engaging in a triangular battle. Thirteen Assembly constituencies saw over 70 per cent polling, with a majority of them being held by Congress MLAs. Sadhaura and Ellenabad were among the constituencies with the highest polling percentages.
Jagadhri, a part of the Ambala parliamentary seat, witnessed a 74.34 per cent polling rate. Dabwali, Kalawali, Ladwa, Mulana, Naraingarh, and Radaur, all represented by Congress MLAs, recorded over 70 per cent polling. Hathin and Ratia, held by BJP MLAs, also saw high voter turnouts.
