The Supreme Court took a firm stance against the practice of immediate ‘bulldozer justice’ on Wednesday, establishing comprehensive guidelines applicable across the nation regarding the demolition of properties. The Court emphasized that the Executive branch does not possess the authority to act as a judge, declare individuals guilty, and subsequently demolish their residences. Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan articulated that such actions would be fundamentally unconstitutional, particularly if properties are razed solely based on accusations or even convictions. In delivering the judgment, Justice Gavai expressed deep concern over the distressing sight of women and children being rendered homeless overnight.
