Chandigarh, May 28 (Ozi news desk):  The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s Division Bench recently granted an appeal submitted by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the leader of Dera Sacha Sauda, in the case involving the murder of Ranjit Singh. The decision to allow the appeal against his conviction was made by Justice Sureshwar Thakur and Justice Lalit Batra, members of the Division Bench. The specifics of the ruling are yet to be disclosed.

Following the sentencing of Ram Rahim and four others to life imprisonment by a special CBI court in Panchkula in October 2021 for the murder of Ranjit Singh in 2002, the Dera chief took his case to the High Court, challenging the verdict. Additionally, the court had imposed a fine of Rs 31 lakh on the Dera chief for his involvement in the crime. Ranjit Singh was fatally shot by four attackers on July 10, 2002, in his hometown of Khanpur Kolian village in Kurukshetra.

In December 2021, the high court accepted Ram Rahim’s appeal and put a hold on the collection of 50% of the fine while the appeal is being reviewed. This development comes after the initial ruling by the special CBI court, signaling a significant legal battle ahead in the ongoing case.
