On the third day of the second cricket Test between Australia and Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), play was halted after lunch after third umpire Richard Illingworth got stuck in the lift. The players reached the field after lunch but the game was stopped for several minutes. On-field umpires Joel Wilson and Michael were informed that Illingworth had not arrived at his place at the MCG. Cricket Australia wrote on social media, “The match has been delayed because the third umpire is stuck in the lift. Illingworth got stuck in the lift while returning to his seat from the dining area, when Australian opener David Warner was caught in the lift. Reserve umpire Philip Gillespie, seen laughing on the field, rushed to the box to replace Illingworth. Steve Smith, batting alongside Warner, asked Wilson if he could sit until Illingworth returned. After a few minutes, the third umpire came out of the lift and sat on his seat and the match started.
