18-05-2023 (Press Ki Taquat)– The movie ‘The Kerala Story’ is going to be released in West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had banned the film, which has now been lifted by the Supreme Court. During the hearing held on May 18, West Bengal government’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi and filmmaker’s lawyer Harish Salve presented their arguments before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
During the hearing in the court of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, the counsel for the petitioner seeking ban on the film said that the film has been presented as original and there is something else in the disclaimer. It cannot be done. On this, the CJI told Harish Salve, the lawyer of the film’s producer, that the figure of 32000 has been distorted.
Explain this… Salve said that there is no authentic data that the incidents took place, it is not a matter of dispute. After this the CJI said, ‘But here the film says that 32000 women are missing… there is a dialogue in it.’ Salve replied that we are prepared to show in the disclaimer that no authentic data is available on this.
