Adnan Mansuri, an 18-year-old individual, endured a period of 151 days in judicial custody after being accused of spitting on a Hindu religious procession in his hometown of Ujjain. As a consequence of this incident, his family’s residence was demolished due to alleged encroachment, compelling them to seek an alternative address.
However, after spending five months incarcerated, Adnan has been released on bail. This development occurred because the complainant, who also serves as the primary witness, declined to identify him. Adnan’s younger brother and his cousin, both minors, are the other two individuals implicated in this case, and they were granted bail at an earlier stage.
On July 17, while Adnan and his two brothers were present on the terrace, a procession honoring Lord Mahakal (also known as Lord Shiva) and organized by devotees passed by their house. Suddenly, someone exclaimed, “they spit, they spit.” This single accusation led to the apprehension of the three boys.
