Chandigarh, May 30 (Ozi news desk):  Delhi experienced scorching temperatures on Wednesday, with the mercury soaring to a staggering 52.9 degrees Celsius in Mungeshpur. However, it is worth noting that this reading may be subject to revision, as other parts of the city recorded maximum temperatures ranging from 45.2 to 49.1 degrees Celsius. Tragically, this extreme heat claimed its first victim of the year, a 40-year-old laborer who succumbed to heatstroke. The doctor who attended to him revealed that the deceased had been living in a room without any cooling facilities or fans, and was also suffering from a high fever. Shockingly, his body temperature had crossed the 107 degrees Celsius mark, which is nearly 10 degrees above the normal range. In response to this unfortunate incident, Delhi’s lieutenant governor has directed the government to take necessary measures to protect laborers, including providing them with water and shaded areas at construction sites, as well as granting them paid leave from noon to 3 pm. As for the current weather conditions, Delhi recorded a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning, with a heat index of 37.8 degrees Celsius. The India weather department has predicted that the heat wave to severe heat wave conditions over northwest and central India will gradually subside from today onwards.
