Kolkata, August 16 (Ozi news desk): The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) took to the streets in West Bengal, staging rallies and blocking roads as part of a 12-hour general strike. This action was a direct response to the shocking incident involving the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital. Protesters, waving flags and holding up posters, expressed their outrage towards the state government, accusing it of failing to protect the safety and well-being of medical professionals. An SUCI-C leader pointed out that the recent vandalism at RG Kar hospital serves as a clear indication that the government has not learned from the tragic events surrounding the woman doctor’s murder. The chaos escalated on Thursday night when miscreants damaged the emergency ward, nursing station, medicine store, and parts of the outpatient department, coinciding with midnight protests led by women across the state, who were united in their condemnation of the brutal rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee that occurred in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9.
