HYDERABAD, JANUARY 27,2024 (ozi news desk):
Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder of the Indian team, missed out on scoring a century in the first Test against England in Hyderabad. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad provided Jadeja with an opportunity to score his fourth century in his Test career. However, on the second day of the match, during the stump time, Jadeja was dismissed after scoring 81 runs. In the first session of the third day, he was playing sensibly. However, due to a controversial decision by the umpire, he had to return to the pavilion.
The LBW appeal against Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery by Root was made during the match. After the on-field umpire ruled Jadeja out, he immediately took a DRS. In the replay, it was seen that the ball had hit both the bat and the pad at the same time. The third umpire reviewed it multiple times but it was not clear whether the ball hit the bat first or the pad first. The umpire considered it to have hit the pad first because the on-field umpire had deemed it so. As a result, Ravindra Jadeja had to return. The impact of the ball hitting the pad also resulted in the umpires’ call for hitting the wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja played an innings of 87 runs before getting out. In his 180-ball innings, he hit 7 fours and 2 sixes. He formed a partnership of 78 runs with Akshar Patel for the 8th wicket. After Jadeja’s dismissal, the Indian innings couldn’t add a single run. The next two wickets also fell quickly, and the team was all out for 436.
Ravindra Jadeja, although playing as an all-rounder, is one of the most reliable batsmen in the team. His Test average is even better than KL Rahul’s. This is his 100th innings in Test cricket, where he has scored 3 centuries and 20 fifties. Since 2018, he has been the Indian batsman with the highest number of fifty-plus scores in Test matches.
