Chandigarh, July 19 (Ozi news desk): The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, has scheduled a meeting with key officials from the Local Government and Rural Development departments, along with the Chief Secretary, State Election Commissioner, and the Advocate General. This move has sparked speculation that the AAP government may be gearing up to announce elections for the urban and rural civic bodies, including Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads.
Following the dissolution of 13,241 Panchayats and the appointment of administrators, elections for these bodies are now on the horizon. Additionally, elections for the Municipal Corporations of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana, and Patiala are also pending.
The upcoming meeting signifies a crucial step towards the electoral process in Punjab, as the government prepares to address the governance structure at the grassroots level.
