Hisar, April 25 (Ozi news desk): Historically, retaining the Hisar seat has proven challenging for incumbent MPs, with only a few exceptions. Surender Barwala of the INLD managed to defend the seat in 1998 and 1999, but faced defeat in 2004. Jai Prakash, also known as JP, won in 1989, 1996, and 2004 but lost in several other attempts. Mani Ram Bagri and Birender Singh also faced difficulties in retaining the seat in past elections.
Kuldeep Bishnoi, who succeeded his father Bhajan Lal, won in 2011 but lost in 2014 to Dushyant Chautala. Political experts attribute this volatility to the people of Hisar taking pride in causing defeats rather than ensuring victories. The BJP has now nominated Ranjit Singh after Brijendra Singh’s defection to the Congress, raising questions about his ability to replicate Barwala’s success in the upcoming election.
