Traffic was also affected on the roads in Delhi NCR due to fog in the morning. People had to face low visibility while driving vehicles and the speed of vehicles remained slow. An accident also occurred on the Delhi-UP road due to fog.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue over parts of northwest and adjoining central India during the next 3-4 days. At least eight flights from Delhi airport were diverted to Jaipur or Ahmedabad airports between 6-9 am, sources said. Due to inclement weather, eight flights from the Delhi airport were diverted today, an official said. These flights were diverted between 6 am and 9 am. While seven flights were diverted to Jaipur in Rajasthan, one was diverted to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. According to flightradar24.com, a total of 95 arrival flights and 238 departure flights were delayed at the Delhi airport till 12.30 pm due to fog.
Earlier today, Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory due to the impact of dense fog on operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Flights not complying with CAT-3 standards may be affected when landing and take-off are underway, the advisory said. Passengers were asked to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information. To deal with the fog, officials activated the CAT-3 instrument landing system, which facilitated precise approaches and landings in low-visibility runways. Delhi Airport handles a total of 1,200 daily flights.
