The Sri Jagannath temple administration has made the dress code mandatory for the pilgrims entering the temple. The twelfth century old temple has also imposed a complete ban on eating gutkha and paan and the use of plastic and polythene in the temple premises from the new year. More than 1.80 lakh devotees paid obeisance at the temple on the first day of the new year. The temple administration official said that the pilgrims will have to wear ‘civil clothes’ while entering the temple. Devotees wearing half pants, shorts, ripped jeans, skirts and sleeveless dresses will not be allowed to enter the temple. On the first day of the new year, after the immediate implementation of the decree issued by the administration, male devotees were seen in dhoti and towels, while female devotees who came to have darshan of Lord Jagannath were wearing sarees and salwar shirts.
