Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, a well-known Pakistani singer, became embroiled in a controversy when a video surfaced on social media showing him purportedly slapping an individual. The video quickly went viral, causing a stir and attracting widespread attention. In response to the incident, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan vehemently denied the allegations, stating that it was a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation and tarnish his image.
Khan’s actions in the video, where he is seen continuously striking and slapping his protege Naveed Hasnain with a slipper while demanding the whereabouts of his bottle, caused a significant uproar on social media. Within a few hours of the 1.03-minute clip going viral, Khan’s name began trending as numerous users criticized him for his inappropriate behavior. The exact time and location of the video’s recording remain unknown. In an attempt to address the controversy, the singer took to Instagram and shared a sequence of videos to provide clarification on the incident.
Khan, aged 49, referred to the viral video as an “internal matter” involving a master and his disciple. He explained that the content shown in the videos pertained to the relationship between a ustaad (master) and a shagird (protege). According to Khan, when the protege performs well, they receive a lot of love and appreciation, but if they make a mistake, they are also subjected to punishment. Khan mentioned that he had already apologized to the protege at the time of the incident. The video also featured Hasnain and his father. In a separate video, Khan expressed his belief that the person who recorded the video had malicious intentions to tarnish his reputation.
He further stated that these are mere efforts to tarnish his reputation and portray him as a dictator, but he urges his critics to introspect before passing judgment. Numerous individuals who identify as X users strongly criticized Khan and argued that the controversy surrounding him was centered around a misplaced bottle of alcohol. Hasnain clarified that the bottle in question actually held “holy water.”
The individual expressed that they had misplaced the bottle containing ‘pir sahab ka dum ka paani’ and acknowledged the deep affection their ustaad holds for them. They believed that the person who recorded the video is attempting to blackmail them and tarnish the reputation of their ustaad. Hasnain further emphasized that his family and Khan have shared a bond for over four decades, and any content seen in the viral clip is completely false. Despite the possibility of being reprimanded or physically harmed by their ustaad, they still consider him their mentor and asserted that the video is a fabrication.
Despite Khan’s attempts to address the issue and provide clarification, the backlash on social media continued unabated. Numerous individuals expressed their dissatisfaction with his explanation regarding the incident involving his protege, deeming it inadequate and cringe-worthy.
