In a significant development, the Punjab Police announced on Tuesday that they had apprehended two major criminals, Manjit Singh alias Manna and Lavjit alias Lav, along with three other individuals. This arrest led to the seizure of a substantial amount of contraband, including three kilograms of heroin, 5.25 lakh rupees in drug money, and three cars. DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that Manna and Lav were highly sought-after criminals, wanted by both the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai for their involvement in a 260 kg heroin seizure, as well as the Delhi Special Cell for their connection to a 356 kg heroin seizure. Additionally, they were wanted in connection with 616 kg heroin drug cases in Delhi and Mumbai. These fugitives had been on the run since 2015 and had a long list of criminal cases against them. To evade capture, they had obtained fake passports from Lucknow, using addresses in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. The accused were also deeply involved in the Hawala network, which has now been dismantled thanks to their arrest.
Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar announced during a press conference that the arrest of Harmanjit Singh, also known as Harman, from Dhun Dhahewala village, played a crucial role in the subsequent arrest of two individuals.
Harman was apprehended on January 20 with a significant amount of evidence, including 2 kg of heroin, an electronic scale, Rs 1.25 lakh in drug money, and an I-20 car.
During the interrogation, Harman confessed that he had received the heroin consignment from Manjit Singh, also known as Manna, who resides in Dhun Dhahewala village in District Tarn Taran but is currently living in Hargobindpura Mohala in Chheharta area.
Manna had provided Harman with the drugs for further distribution, implicating him in the illegal drug trade.
Harman’s confession led to a police raid on Manjit Singh Manna’s residence, resulting in his arrest on January 22. Subsequently, the police also apprehended Manna’s brother, Lovejit Singh alias Luv, and his associate, Manpreet Singh, who hailed from Dhunn Dhahewala village. During the operation, law enforcement authorities seized 1 kg of heroin, an SUV vehicle, Rs 4 lakh in drug money, and a motorcycle from Manna. CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that after obtaining police remand, further investigations would be conducted to uncover their connections and it is anticipated that more significant information will be revealed.
