Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann participated in a Cabinet meeting via virtual means on Monday, following his hospitalization on September 5. The meeting was convened to deliberate on significant amendments to the state’s mining policy, which are particularly aimed at providing support to farmers whose lands were inundated during the recent monsoon season. The proposed revisions to the policy would permit these farmers to extract and sell the sand that has accumulated on their properties as a result of the flooding. This initiative is viewed not only as a necessary relief effort for those affected by the natural disaster but also as a strategic move to economically empower these farmers by transforming the flood deposits into a viable resource, thereby enhancing their financial stability in the aftermath of the adverse weather conditions.
