Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, reaffirmed India’s steadfast position regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, advocating for a resolution achieved through diplomatic means and dialogue. The two leaders convened on the margins of the UN Summit of the Future in New York, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) releasing details of their discussion the following morning, Indian Time. This meeting marked the third occasion the two have engaged since June of this year. According to the MEA, Modi emphasized India’s clear and constructive stance in favor of resolving the conflict peacefully through diplomatic engagement among all parties involved. While on a three-day visit to the United States from September 21 to 23, Modi reiterated similar sentiments at the UN summit, stating, “The success of humanity lies in our collective strength and not the battlefield.” He assured Zelenskyy of India’s willingness to extend all possible support to facilitate a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the conflict, with the situation in Ukraine and potential pathways to peace being central themes of their discussions, as noted by the MEA.
