The Monsoon Session of Parliament continued today, July 23, with significant developments on its third day. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the National Sports Bill, also known as the Sports Governance Bill, in the Lok Sabha. This legislation seeks to bring the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under the oversight of a proposed National Sports Board, along with 45 National Sports Federations (NSFs). Should the Bill be enacted, the BCCI would lose its current status as an autonomous entity and would be required to comply with the regulations set forth by the new governing body. The primary objectives of the Bill include enhancing transparency in sports governance, implementing athlete-centric reforms, and facilitating a more efficient resolution of disputes within the sports sector.

Meanwhile, the Parliament witnessed significant disruptions on Tuesday due to protests from Opposition members regarding the ongoing voter-roll revision in Bihar. Demonstrators raised slogans and displayed placards within both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, leading to a chaotic atmosphere that ultimately resulted in the suspension of proceedings in both Houses on the second day of the Monsoon Session. Opposition MPs congregated in the Well of the House around 11 am, vocally demanding the cessation of the SIR exercise, which prompted the adjournment of both Houses. By approximately 2 pm, the continuous uproar forced the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to be adjourned until the following day, highlighting the tensions surrounding this contentious issue.
