Cairo, May 29 (Ozi news desk): The Israeli military has refuted claims of attacking a tent camp located to the west of Rafah on Tuesday, following reports from Gaza health authorities that Israeli tank shelling resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals in an area that Israel had designated as a civilian evacuation zone. This incident occurred amidst escalating tensions, with Israeli tanks moving into Rafah despite an appeal from the International Court of Justice. The situation was further complicated by Spain, Ireland, and Norway officially recognizing a Palestinian state, which contributed to Israel’s increasing international isolation.
The United States, a key ally of Israel, maintained its stance against a significant Israeli ground offensive in Rafah, although it clarified that it did not believe such an operation was currently underway. The White House’s national security spokesperson outlined the criteria for what would constitute a major offensive, emphasizing the need for large numbers of troops engaged in coordinated maneuvers against multiple targets on the ground. Despite conflicting reports and global condemnation, Israel’s military denied targeting the Humanitarian Area in Al-Mawasi, where a tragic incident involving tank shells hitting a cluster of tents resulted in the deaths of several women. This development added to the complexity of the situation, as Israel had previously advised Palestinian civilians to seek refuge in Al-Mawasi during the conflict in Rafah.
