Five police officers were killed and 22 others were injured in a blast near a police van in Mamund tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district on Monday, according to Pakistan-based Dawn, citing rescue and hospital officials.
Israr Ahmed, a spokesperson for the Bajaur police, confirmed the police casualties. According to hospital officials, the blast injured 22 people.
In addition, ten other people who were seriously injured were taken to a hospital in Peshawar.
Rescue 1122 said in a statement that rescue teams in Mohmand and Lower Dir districts had been placed on “alert.” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Arshad Hussain Shah condemned the blast and expressed his condolences for the deaths of police officers in a statement.
