Parliamentarians belonging to the ‘India’ alliance took out a protest march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk today against the suspension of MPs of opposition parties from Parliament. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who was present at the march, asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has violated parliamentary etiquette by not speaking inside the House on the issue of security in Parliament. During the march, the parliamentarians were holding huge banners and placards with messages such as ‘Save Democracy’, ‘Opposition MPs suspended’, ‘Parliament caged’ and ‘Democracy dismissed’ written on them.
Talking to reporters at Vijay Chowk, Kharge said that in a democratic system, the opposition has the right to speak and as the representatives of the people, it is the responsibility of the legislators to convey the sentiments of the people to the Parliament. The Congress president said that the opposition wanted to speak on the issue of security, but Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah did not come to the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha, although the Prime Minister’s speeches continued elsewhere. He said, “We wanted to raise the issue of breach of security in Parliament so that it is known why it happened and who is responsible for it.” Parliament is a big panchayat. If we will not speak here then where will we speak. It is unfortunate that Home Minister Shah and Prime Minister Modi did not come to the House. The issues that should be discussed in the House, they talk about outside the House.
Kharge said, “He (Modi) speaks on TV in Varanasi, Ahmedabad, but not in Parliament. He should have come and spoken in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha first. But instead he is speaking outside the Parliament. It is reprehensible and it is a violation of the etiquette of the House.” The Congress president said that the MPs of the opposition parties are constantly appealing to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that the issue of security should be taken care of. be allowed to speak on Kharge said that only the members of the ruling party are obstructing the proceedings of the House. He said that it is clear that the BJP does not believe in democracy and does not want a discussion. Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said that the leaders of the India Alliance will hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on Friday against the suspension of MPs. Kharge said, “Sorry, I have to say that the Rajya Sabha Chairman has raised this issue in a way and has brought the issue of caste into the Lok Sabha.” Chaudhary, General Secretary KC Venugopal, Hasnain Masudi of National Conference, Mahua Majhi of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, ST Haasan of Samajwadi Party were present.
