Panchkula,23-01-23(Press Ki Taquat): The detailed information is available with the department but the need of the hour is officers should reach out to the taxpayers through updated information which eventually strengthens the state’s revenue. GST is a complex law that needs to be well-versed. Regular training programs are vital in empowering our officers. This was stated by Haryana’s Excise and Taxation Commissioner Ashok Kumar Meena at the inaugural session of the three-day ‘Capacity Building Program on GST’ being organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in association with Excise and Taxation Department at Hotel Holiday Inn on Monday

Many changes have taken place after the introduction of GST in 2017. With the entire system being online and transparent, there have been changes in several acts with regular intervals which are often posing challenges to the officers of the ET Department. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Excise and Taxation, Government of Haryana, has taken the initiative to organize a  series of training program for the officers of the department on the relevant subject.

Appreciating the usefulness of such training programs, Meena said that it is necessary for Haryana to be technically aware about the subject in order to increase the tax collection. He said that GST can play an important role in the revenue of the state, for which it is important to know the nuances of its amended Acts. He exhorted the officers to continue facilitating the regular tax payers while bringing the defaulters under strictest punishment.

On this occasion, Additional Commissioners  of Excise and Taxation of the department, Siddharth Jain and Vidyasagar, ICAI Chandigarh Chairman Anil Kakkar and former Chairman Atul Kumar also spoke on the subject.

Organizer and Central Council member of ICAI, Charanjit Singh Nanda said that this is the fifth program of ICAI wherein two were organized in Gurugram and one each in Karnal and Hisar. He said that this series of programs is proving successful for the officers to make their functioning more effective. He said that many concepts of other sectors like banking, real estate, insurance, hospitality and tourism etc. have been well taken and understood to the officers. Taxation departments of many districts have already started implementing the experiences gained from these sessions.
