Binita Mishra (name changed for anonymity) from Lucknow has been preparing for the NEET exam since 2017. She was a below-average student in Class 12 and not interested in the medical field. Nevertheless, she appeared for the exam on her father’s insistence and managed to score 373/720 on her first attempt.

Her score led her to seriously consider a career in medicine, and she enrolled in Aakash Institute, Lucknow. She also took a gap year in 2018 and appeared for NEET-UG in 2019. Despite preparing for a year, she only scored 372/720, one mark less than her previous attempt.

On her fourth attempt, she scored 572/720. She tried again in 2022 and scored 586/720. She was definitely inching closer to her goal of cracking the NEET exam. Since there is no limit to the number of times you can appear for NEET, she decided to take a year off again in 2023 and wholeheartedly prepare for the 2024 NEET exam.

NEET UG 2024 was held on May 5 across 4,750 centres, and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were declared on June 4. Binita scored 605 marks out of 720. She was heartbroken. Typically, a score of 650 or higher is needed to secure a seat in a government medical college, with top colleges requiring scores exceeding 690.
