Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira appeared in the district court today. During his appearance in the court, at the very beginning, Sukhpal Khaira tried to ask for exemption in filing the charge sheet. For this, his lawyers filed an application in the court. The court rejected the application after hearing the arguments of three parties.
After this, a charge sheet was filed against both the accused by the ED lawyer under Section 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Now the next hearing of the case will be on November 17. The trial will start from the same day.
Two witnesses have also been summoned for the trial. He will also have to appear on November 17. Khaira said in the court that an opportunity of hearing should be given before presenting the charge sheet. Notice was given to ED lawyer on this.
ED lawyer said that the case is pending in the court since 2022. He has got many opportunities before also. There is no need to give any more chances.
No stay has been given by Punjab and Haryana High Court and Supreme Court. Yet when the court gave him an opportunity to hear him, his lawyer said that he had been wrongly implicated in the case. He holds a high position in politics. He has no contact with accused Gurdev Singh. Gurdev Singh has been the sarpanch of his village and the head of the market. They have not taken any cash from him. Along with Khaira, the second accused Gurdev Singh also appeared. He said that he had been sentenced in 2017.
Apart from this, he has no relation with Sukhpal Singh Khaira nor any transaction with Khaira, hence he should be acquitted in this case.
