S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali)
As per the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to the holistic development of Mohali city, MLA Kulwant Singh on Tuesday kick-started the construction works of various chowks and T-junctions to be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 17.71 crore.
The project was formally launched with the commencement of work at the newly proposed chowk located in front of Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan Sahib, Sohana.
The project envisages the construction of a new chowk at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, in addition to new junctions at Sector 78/79 and near CP-67 Mall. Besides this, several existing junctions are being upgraded, including the IISER T-Point on Airport Road, which is already about 90 percent complete, as well as the Cheema Boiler Chowk T Point and the Quark City junction. The project is scheduled to be completed and dedicated to the public by October 2026.
Before the commencement of the construction work, an Ardas was performed in the presence of the entire Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan Sahib Management Committee, seeking divine blessings for the successful and timely completion of the project. During the occasion, the Management Committee requested that the newly constructed chowk be named after Baba Ji. Responding to the request, MLA Kulwant Singh assured the committee that he would take up the matter with the government and make all possible efforts to name the chowk after “Amar Shaheed Jathedar Baba Hanuman Singh Ji,” thereby dedicating it to his revered memory.
Interacting with mediapersons, MLA Kulwant Singh stated that five chowks have already been constructed in Mohali and that the newly initiated works would further facilitate smooth traffic movement and enhanced road safety. He added that GMADA would ensure the execution of the project in a systematic and efficient manner, while taking special care to ensure that traffic is not adversely affected during the construction period.
The MLA further informed that in the coming days, the foundation stone of a Women’s Hostel will be laid in Sector-66. He noted that with the expansion of the limits of the Mohali Municipal Corporation, pending development works would gain momentum and the needs and concerns of the public would be addressed in a timely manner.
Replying to a query from the media, MLA Kulwant Singh clarified that the ongoing action against illegal encroachments in Mohali is being carried out strictly in accordance with the directions of the Hon’ble Court. He added that any attempt to mislead the public or to criticise the lawful action amounts to disregard of judicial orders.
