Mohali, December 29:
The Punjab government has given major relief to the allottees of Sectors 76–80, Mohali by reducing the enhancement amount from ₹3,164 to ₹2,325 per square meter. Now, the allottees will have to pay ₹2,325 per square meter.
GMADA had issued enhancement notices to residents of Sectors 76–80 three times—first in 2007–08, then in 2010, and again in 2012. However, since GMADA had not acquired the land and due to court cases filed by farmers, in 2022 notices were directly issued to the residents of these areas in Mohali. At that time, the Akali Dal and Congress allegedly kept the files of 7,680 allottees pending, forcing people to pay two to three times the amount as interest.
Speaking to the media about this important decision taken by the Punjab Cabinet, MLA Kulwant Singh said that he has always been committed to resolving the problems of the people of the Mohali constituency in a timely manner. He said his constant effort is to ensure that people do not face any kind of difficulty. However, the allottees of Sectors 76–80 had been paying a huge amount as interest on their plots for a long time. Several meetings were held regarding this issue, but when he brought the matter to the attention of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, the issue was resolved immediately. Today, the Cabinet approved the decision, providing major relief to the allottees of Sectors 76–80.
For this, he said, he would always remain grateful to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. MLA Kulwant Singh further stated that he would also talk to the Chief Minister about reducing the enhancement amount even further. He added that besides this decision, the Punjab Cabinet has also taken several other major and important decisions today for Mohali district as well as for the entire state, which will provide significant relief to the people.
MLA Kulwant Singh formed an Anti-Enhancement Committee and appointed Sukhdev Singh Patwari as its president. The committee held continuous meetings with the Punjab Chief Minister, Chief Secretary of Punjab, Secretary (Housing), CA GMADA, and other concerned officials.
