New Delhi, June 8 (Ozi news desk): Seven leaders from neighbouring nations, excluding Pakistan but including the currently estranged Maldives, are expected to attend Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday evening.
The leaders of Bangladesh and Seychelles are scheduled to arrive on Saturday, while those from Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka will land on Sunday. This mirrors Modi’s first swearing-in ceremony where he had invited all SAARC leaders, except for the then Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif.
Sources mentioned that no invitation was extended to Islamabad, and even if it had been, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif would not have been able to attend due to his prior commitments in China. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to be the first to arrive, planning a visit to India for bilateral talks post-elections, reciprocating India’s support during the Bangladesh general elections.
