In a significant setback for India’s aspirations for medals at the Commonwealth Games, the host city of Glasgow has announced the exclusion of several prominent sports, including hockey, badminton, wrestling, cricket, and shooting, from the 2026 edition. This decision comes as part of a revised lineup featuring only ten disciplines, aimed at maintaining a budget-friendly approach for the event. Additionally, sports such as table tennis, squash, and triathlon have also been removed from the program, reflecting a concerted effort to reduce costs and simplify logistical arrangements, especially since the entire event will be confined to just four venues. Consequently, the total number of events in this upcoming edition will be reduced by nine compared to the previous 2022 Birmingham Games. Scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, the 23rd edition of this prestigious event marks Glasgow’s return as a host city after a 12-year hiatus since the 2014 Games.
