Mohali MLA Sardar Kulwant Singh today laid the foundation stones for the development of link roads and village periphery roads (phirnis) across various villages in the constituency, marking the commencement of construction works covering a total length of 11.38 kilometres. These projects will be executed at an estimated cost of ₹246.88 lakh and are scheduled for completion within six months.
Addressing the gathering, S. Kulwant Singh stated that the construction of these roads would significantly strengthen inter-village connectivity and provide much-needed relief to residents by improving transportation facilities. He assured that all works would be carried out strictly in accordance with prescribed quality standards, ensuring durability and long-term sustainability of the roads.
Providing project-wise details, the MLA informed that the 1.96-kilometre-long Nanumajra–Sambhalaki–Sukhgarh– Saneta road will be repaired at a cost of ₹41.73 lakh, with an additional ₹3.33 lakh earmarked for five years of maintenance. Of this stretch, 420 metres will be constructed using paver blocks, while the remaining portion will be finished with bituminous surfacing.
The 0.75-kilometre-long phirni of village Sambhalaki will be repaired at a cost of ₹11.58 lakh, with ₹2.41 lakh allocated for five years of upkeep. This road will also be constructed with bituminous material.
The 1.10-kilometre link road from Kharar–Banur Road to Raipur Kalan will be repaired at a cost of ₹16.20 lakh, with 400 metres laid using paver blocks and the remaining stretch with bituminous surfacing. Similarly, the 1-kilometre-long Saidpur–Chuharmanjra road will be repaired at a cost of ₹19.52 lakh, along with ₹2.88 lakh for five years of maintenance.
The road from Gobindgarh to Dhelpur, measuring 2.17 kilometres, will undergo renovation at a cost of ₹41.16 lakh, with ₹5.64 lakh allocated for its maintenance over five years. Additionally, the 1.19-kilometre-long link road from Dhelpur to Gadana will be repaired at a cost of ₹19.67 lakh, with ₹2.40 lakh reserved for maintenance.
The 0.88-kilometre-long phirni of Giga Majra will be developed using 60 mm paver blocks at a cost of ₹24.86 lakh. Meanwhile, the Manoli–Siaun link road and the Premgarh approach road, with a combined length of 2.33 kilometres, will be repaired at a cost of ₹48.47 lakh, with ₹7.04 lakh set aside for maintenance over five years.
S. Kulwant Singh also stated that as part of the overall development vision for the Mohali constituency, 60 new roads and 32 new sports stadiums are currently being constructed. These initiatives aim to enhance mobility for residents and actively engage youth in sports and fitness activities.
Highlighting power sector reforms, the MLA said that extensive power infrastructure upgrades are underway in Mohali. Out of the total ₹5,000 crore power upgradation budget for Punjab, ₹750 crore is being invested specifically in Mohali to strengthen the power distribution network.
He also highlighted the welfare initiatives of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, including the provision of 300 units of free electricity, free medicines and diagnostic tests through Aam Aadmi Clinics, and the establishment of Schools of Eminence across the state to ensure quality education. Taking these efforts further, the state government is set to launch the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme on January 22, guaranteeing comprehensive healthcare coverage. Under this landmark scheme, nearly 6.5 million families in Punjab will be entitled to cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh.
