An Israeli airstrike in Beirut resulted in the death of a high-ranking Hezbollah commander on Tuesday, amid escalating cross-border rocket attacks that have heightened concerns of an all-out war in the Middle East. Lebanon has indicated that only the United States possesses the influence necessary to mediate an end to the ongoing hostilities. On Wednesday, Hezbollah confirmed the death of senior commander Ibrahim Qubaisi, who was reportedly targeted by Israeli airstrikes in the Lebanese capital, as previously announced by Israeli officials. Israel identified Qubaisi as the leader of the group’s missile and rocket operations. Since the onset of the offensive on Monday morning, the toll in Lebanon has been devastating, with Health Minister Firass Abiad reporting that 569 individuals have lost their lives, including 50 children, while 1,835 others have sustained injuries, as conveyed in an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher TV.
