1. In a significant advancement for sustainable transportation, the city of Jiind in Haryana is poised to become the first in India to introduce a hydrogen-powered train, marking a pivotal step in the nation’s commitment to adopting greener technologies in the transport sector. This innovative train will operate on the route between Jiind and Sonipat, and this week, Jiind Railway Station is set to conduct the final load check trial for the train. Following a successful trial and subsequent approval from the Prime Minister’s Office, the train is expected to commence regular operations. This initiative not only symbolizes India’s dedication to environmental sustainability but also showcases cutting-edge advancements in transportation technology. The hydrogen-powered train is designed with advanced features that enhance its eco-friendliness and operational efficiency. Railway officials have indicated that the train will utilize hydrogen fuel generated from 9 kilograms of water, producing 900 grams of hydrogen, which will enable it to travel approximately 1 kilometer. With a maximum speed of 150 kilometers per hour, the train promises to facilitate swift and efficient travel between Jiind and Sonipat. Furthermore, a state-of-the-art hydrogen gas production facility, established by a Spanish firm, has been installed at Jiind Railway Station and has received the necessary approvals from the Prime Minister’s Office. In addition, four driver power cars and 16 passenger coaches, produced at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, have already been delivered to Shakur Basti Station, setting the stage for the upcoming trial runs. A comprehensive trial covering a distance of 90 kilometers between Jiind and Sonipat is scheduled to commence soon, featuring two driver power cars and eight passenger coaches, with the first run anticipated to take place on January 26.
