The Indian team was fined 10 per cent of the match fee for slow over pace in the first Test cricket match against South Africa in Centurion and the Rohit Sharma-led team also lost two points for the World Test Championship (WTC). In this match, India lost by an innings and 32 runs. After the defeat, India has slipped from the top to the second position in the WTC points table. Now Australia is at the top. The ICC said, “The ICC Elite Panel match referee Chris Broad gave this punishment to the Indian team. India were two overs short of the target in the allotted time.” Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and support staff regarding low over rates carries a fine of five per cent of the match fee for each over. Along with this, WTC also deducts one mark for each over.
