Punjab government will request the court to permit immediate station allotment for 600 assistant professors: Harjot Singh Bains

Chandigarh, November 28.

The hearing on the review petition of Punjab Government concerning the recruitment of 1158 Assistant Professors/Librarians is scheduled on November 29, 2023, and the state government will request the court to permit immediate allotment of stations to the 600 assistant professors selected under this recruitment drive.

This was disclosed by the Higher Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains here today, mentioning that the recruitment process, initiated by the previous Congress government in November 2021, was just a means for political mileage. Despite the warnings of experts that complying with the law to complete the recruitment process within such a short time frame was unfeasible, this recruitment process was completed ignoring the opinion of the experts, said the Cabinet Minister, adding that subsequently, some candidates challenged this recruitment process in the High Court.

He said that the recruitment process for 1158 Assistant Professors/Librarians candidates was nullified by the High Court, impacting their future.

He said that in response, the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government has filed a CM in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which will be heard on November 29 by a double bench led by Hon’ble Chief Justice Ritu Bahri. The Cabinet Minister informed that during the hearing, the Punjab government will request to allow immediate station allotment for 600 assistant professors.
