Health screening of prisoners at medical camp at Central Jail

Today a special medical camp was organized at Central Jail Patiala in coordination with the office of Civil Surgeon, Patiala and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Patiala. This medical camp was inaugurated by Ld. DLSA, Patiala, Smt. Mani Arora, in presence of Superintendent, Central Jail Patiala Sh. Manjit Singh Tiwana and other officials of the jail. According to Sh. Manjit Singh Tiwana, medical specialists of branches such as E.N.T, ortho, medicine, dental, eye specialist, skin & gynecologist participated in this camp and a total of 708 inmates were medically examined. He further assured that in future also such medical camps shall be organized at Central Jail Patiala for the betterment of physical & mental health of the inmates. It is pertinent to mention that Punjab Prisons Department is implementing a number of initiatives for ensuring good health of inmates lodged in prisons of Punjab, such as the recently inaugurated ‘Screening of inmates for Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as HIV, HCV and TB’, the State level function of which was recently chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of Health, Punjab, Sh. Balbir Singh at Central Jail Patiala.
