Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been granted a 20-day parole by the Election Commission, albeit with certain stipulations attached. He is scheduled to depart for the Baghpat Ashram located in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning. During this parole period, he is expressly forbidden from residing in Haryana, participating in any political activities, or disseminating political messages via social media platforms. Any violation of these stipulations will result in the immediate revocation of his parole. The request for this parole was also submitted to the Election Commission for their assessment and approval.
This latest parole marks the 11th occasion on which Ram Rahim has been released from incarceration, following a previous 21-day parole granted on August 13 of this year, which allowed him to leave the Sunaria jail situated in Rohtak district, Haryana. Ram Rahim wields considerable influence in various districts of Haryana, including Sirsa, Hisar, and Fatehabad, where he commands a significant following. His release comes at a critical juncture, just ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, which are scheduled to occur in a single phase on October 5, with the vote counting set for October 8. Given his substantial support base, his presence during this period could significantly sway electoral outcomes and influence voter sentiment in the aforementioned regions.
