The session titled “Women in Film – India Chapter: A New Vision,” held during the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa, featured an insightful dialogue led by Oscar-winning director Guneet Monga Kapoor, focusing on the critical issue of gender equality within the film industry. Guneet, the founder of Sikhya Entertainment, a production house renowned for acclaimed films such as the Academy Award-winning The Elephant Whisperer, as well as Gangs of Wasseypur, The Lunchbox, and Masaan, shared her experiences candidly. She remarked, “Having worked as a producer for nearly two decades, I have consistently employed numerous women in my team. At my production company, we actively promote women directors. However, it is disheartening to note that less than five percent of directors in India are women.”
