Chandigarh, June 27:

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to the welfare of everyone, including Divyang Persons. To fulfill this motive, under the directions of Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, the department continues its unwavering commitment to the development and welfare of Divyang Persons in Punjab.

Divulging in this regard, Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that in accordance with Section 51 of the RPWD Act 2016, the designated authority appointed by the state government is entrusted with the issuance of registration certificates to institutions for persons with disabilities. The procedures encompassing the application, issuance, rejections, and cancellation of these certificates, alongside the grant of funds, are comprehensively outlined in Sections 51-55 of the Act.

The Minister added that to enhance the renewal process efficiency, Rule 10 of the Punjab Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2019 stipulates that applications for renewing registration certificates must be submitted 60 days before their expiration.

Social Security Minister has ordered that all District Social Security Officers ensure strict adherence to this rule, thereby facilitating the timely renewals of registered institutions within their respective jurisdictions.

Dr. Baljit Kaur underscored the importance of following these guidelines to avert any service disruptions to Divyang person. She reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s resolute commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities and emphasized the administration’s dedication to supporting all institutions in their mission to serve this community effectively.

She also directed all Deputy Commissioners in the state to ensure timely registration of special schools and government/non-government institutions for the welfare of Divyang persons, as per sections 50 and 51 of the RPWD Act, 2016.
