New Delhi, April 1 (Ozi news desk): Former Member of Parliament from Patiala, Dharamvira Gandhi, has officially joined the Congress party. He was warmly received by senior leaders of the party at the AICC headquarters. Dr. Gandhi, a cardiologist, is expected to contest as the Congress candidate from the Patiala seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In 2014, he won the Lok Sabha election as an AAP candidate, defeating Preneet Kaur from the Congress. However, he left AAP in 2016 and formed his own party, Nawan Punjab Party, which he has now merged with the Congress.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, AICC in-charge for Punjab Devendra Yadav, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, and CLP leader Pratap Bajwa were present during Dr. Gandhi’s joining ceremony. Bajwa expressed confidence that the Congress would benefit from Dr. Gandhi’s presence, while Warring welcomed his decision to join the party.
