Last Updated: April 22, 2024 (OZ News Desk))The CRPF, taking note of jawans posting their complaints and concerns on social media, has issued the second warning within almost two months, asking personnel to desist from airing their grievances publicly. The force has issued two directives in almost two months, addressing social media-related concerns. The significance of the issue can be gauged from the fact that DG CRPF Anish Dayal talked about it during his recent visit to Manipur. In a recent communication, the officer said sharing information on social media related to departmental issues exposes various establishments of CRPF to security threats, an official said.“During his visit to Manipur, DG CRPF flagged a point pertaining to the use of social media in matters related to various departmental issues. Such casual sharing of information causes significant damage to the image of the organisation and also exposes various establishments of CRPF to security threats,” an official told News18, quoting a communication.“He has asked everyone to desist from such unwarranted behaviour, which brings disrepute to the force. In order to prevent such irresponsible behaviour of personnel, the top brass has asked to sensitise all personnel so that information sharing internal matters of CRPF on social media can be stopped,” the official added.Sources said the top brass is unhappy with posts where jawans have shared details about issues they are facing in different deployments, including during elections. In February, CRPF wrote a letter asking the force to avoid sharing photos and videos on social media. “It has been noticed that sometimes, we use such photos, videos, or informative content in our social media posts, which may reveal CRPF’s deployments, tactics, resources, etc., and which may be used by adversaries to harm the force,” another CRPF official said, quoting the letter sent in February.

Earlier, CRPF has also written about social media posts and their usage. In another letter, CRPF last year said “it has come to notice that force personnel are taking recourse to social media platforms to vent their personal grievances, which is in violation of CCS Conduct Rules 1964 and may attract disciplinary action”.In August, CRPF, in a communication, asked officials not to talk to strangers on social media as they can be honey-trapped.“It has been observed that CRPF personnel are posting/uploading their photos/videos in uniform and indulging in friendship with strangers on social media platforms. Therefore, the competent authority has desired that all units/offices should ensure that the personnel under their command do not post their photos/videos in uniform on their social media profile. Ensure strict compliance with social media guidelines and don’t make friends on social media without verification of the person. All personnel may also be informed that violation of these instructions will lead to strict disciplinary action against the concerned,” an official note
