FEBRUARY 3,2024 (ozi news desk):
Last night, a shocking incident occurred near Mumbai where a city chief of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena was targeted by a BJP legislator. According to the police, Ganpat Gaikwad, who represents the Kalyan East constituency, allegedly fired at Mahesh Gaikwad at a police station due to a land dispute. This act of violence resulted in two individuals being injured. It is worth noting that Ganpat Gaikwad has been arrested and is now in custody. It is important to mention that Ganpat Gaikwad’s party is in alliance with Mr. Shinde’s Sena in the Maharashtra government, adding another layer of complexity to this unfortunate incident.
The dispute between Mahesh Gaikwad and Ganpat Gaikwad escalated to a violent confrontation at the Hill Line police station in Ulhasnagar. During the heated talks, Ganpat Gaikwad, an MLA, resorted to opening fire, injuring both Mahesh Gaikwad and another supporter. Prompt medical attention was provided, and they were immediately taken to a hospital. Medical professionals have successfully removed five bullets from Mahesh Gaikwad’s body, but his condition remains critical. Ganpat Gaikwad, who was detained after the incident, claimed that he acted in self-defense as Mahesh Gaikwad and his associates were misbehaving with his son. The Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena criticized the government for its failure to maintain law and order, highlighting the fact that a BJP MLA had opened fire inside a police station. The Shiv Sena had previously split in 2022 when Eknath Shinde revolted against Uddhav Thackeray and formed a government with the BJP’s support. The Election Commission had ruled in favor of Mr. Shinde regarding the party’s legacy.
