Surat, March 23 (Press Ki Taquat)– The Sessions Court of Surat has pronounced its verdict in the ongoing defamation case against Rahul Gandhi regarding Modi’s surname. The court convicted Rahul and sentenced him to two years in prison.
Gujarat’s Surat Sessions Court has sentenced former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison, convicting him on a four-year-old statement. The court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi, but the two-year sentence deepened the crisis over his Lok Sabha membership. If Rahul Gandhi does not get relief from the high court, then he may have to lose his membership?
According to the ‘Representation of the People Act’, if MPs and MLAs have been sentenced for more than 2 years in any case, their membership (of Parliament and Legislative Assembly) shall be revoked. Not only this, they are also ineligible to contest elections for six years after completing the sentence.
