Chandigarh , 02 April 2025 (Sumit Joshi) : The Union Cabinet has approved significant infrastructure projects, including new railway lines and the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP), aimed at improving connectivity and boosting border village development.
Key Railway Projects
- The government will lay 900 km of new railway lines across seven states.
- ₹24,657 crore investment to boost regional connectivity and economic growth.
- 64 new railway stations to be built, benefiting around 40 lakh people.
Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) – Phase 2
- ₹4,800 crore allocated for border village development.
- The scheme will cover 663 villages in 19 districts and 46 border blocks.
- Infrastructure improvements include roads, electricity, water supply, digital connectivity, healthcare, and education.
- The goal is to prevent migration, enhance security, and promote tourism & self-employment.
