30 Dec 2024, Ozi News Desk, (Sumit Joshi) : The body of Santra Saju, a 22-year-old Indian student who had been missing since early December, has been found in a river in Scotland. Her family has been notified, but formal identification is still pending.
Santra, who was studying at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, was last seen on December 6. Police Scotland confirmed that they were informed of a body discovered near Newbridge, a village close to Edinburgh, around 11:55 am on Friday, December 27, 2024.
“While formal identification is still to be completed, Santra Saju’s family has been notified. Her death is not believed to be suspicious,” said Police Scotland in a statement. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal, Scotland’s body responsible for death investigations.
Santra was last seen on CCTV footage at an Asda supermarket in Almondvale, Livingston, on the evening of December 6. At the time of her disappearance, police issued an urgent appeal, describing her as about 5 feet 6 inches tall, of Indian descent, with a slim build and short black hair. She was wearing a black jacket with a fur-lined hood, beige earmuffs, and a black facemask, and carrying a black rucksack.
Inspector Alison Lawrie from Corstorphine Police Station stated, “We know that Santra picked up a black and white shopper-style bag from an address in Burnvale on the evening of December 6, but she did not have it when she entered the supermarket. The bag is distinctive, and someone may have seen her with it.” Police had been reviewing CCTV footage and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Her family and friends had expressed concern, stating her disappearance was completely out of character, and they feared for her safety.
