In today’s election for the position of Mayor in Chandigarh, BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar lost to Congress supporter Kuldeep Kumar. Sonkar received 16 votes, while Kumar received 12 votes. Eight votes were declared invalid. As soon as the results were announced, opposition parties AAP and Congress Councilors protested. In Delhi, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal accused BJP of “betrayal”. The elections for Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councilors will be held. BJP has 14 Councilors out of 35 members in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. AAP has 13 Councilors and Congress has 7 Councilors. Shiromani Akali Dal has one Councilor.
BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar emerged victorious in the Chandigarh mayoral election, defeating the Congress candidate.
