Chandigarh, January 27 (ozi news desk):
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in an impromptu act, got on to the stage during the ‘At Home’ function organised at the Punjab Raj Bhawan, and regaled audience with a rendition of the famous “Challa”.
“Kalakaar han… stage dekh ke rukeya nahin janda,” he said, as he started singing the famous song, entrenched in public memory through its rendition by Gurdas Maan. He got on to the stage while a team of artistes from North Zone Cultural Centre was regaling the gathering with an instrumental rendition of patriotic songs.
Mann sang several paras of the ‘Challa’, and stopped to address the gathering declaring that he was about to become a father in March. He said he did not know the gender of the child. “In the past, I have asked Gurdas Maan to change the lines in one paragraph. The song goes… Challa nau nau kheve, puttar mithde meve. I requested Mann Sahib to change it to “bache mithde meve”. This is because those who have daughters too deserve to celebrate them. After all, daughters give happiness and comfort to parents in old age,” he said, adding that daughters have become judges, lawyers and doctors.
Mann continued to sing for some time, and later thanked Governor Banwarilal Purohit saying, “He is my custodian too.” After some time, Mann left the function, leaving everyone spellbound with his performance.
