Several regions in West Bengal experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday morning as the severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ approached the coastal areas of both West Bengal and the neighboring state of Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The storm is anticipated to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha early on Friday, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour. As of 2:30 AM, the IMD reported that the weather system was located approximately 280 kilometers southeast of Paradip in Odisha and 370 kilometers south-southeast of Sagar Island in West Bengal. This cyclonic activity is expected to result in significant rainfall across various districts in southern Bengal, including the city of Kolkata. In light of the impending storm, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea, as gale-force winds are currently affecting the northwest Bay of Bengal, with speeds ranging from 90 to 100 kilometers per hour, and gusts potentially reaching up to 110 kilometers per hour.
