Olympic medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia today handed over his Padma Shri in protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s confidant Sanjay Singh becoming the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). He wrote on ‘X’ that he had tried to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi but was stopped by the Delhi Police on his duty. He has returned with his Padma Shri wrapped in a letter written to Modi and kept on a leash. Punia told reporters, “I got this honor from the government, but I feel that despite this honor, I have not been able to protect the honor of the daughters of the country. So I don’t deserve it.” Punia said that he will not take the Padma Shri home. He said, “The administration is right in saying that I did not take permission to meet the Prime Minister, so I could not meet him.” I put the Padma Shri here on a letter because I cannot throw it on the ground.” Asked what her message was for the Prime Minister, she said, “If the voice of women wrestlers is not yet heard by you (Modi). ) has not reached and if it reaches you in future, please help them get justice.”
