Since April 1, 2019, Haryana has experienced an alarming rate of illegal mining activities, averaging more than five cases each day, which has resulted in the imposition of penalties totaling Rs 345.74 crore. According to the Economic Survey of Haryana, a staggering 10,676 cases were documented between April 1, 2019, and October 31, 2024. The years 2020-21 and 2021-22 were particularly notable, with the highest number of cases recorded at 3,515 and 2,192, respectively. The Economic Survey for 2024-25, presented in the Vidhan Sabha on March 17, highlights that efforts to combat illegal mining extend beyond the Department of Mines and Geology. Officials from the Forest and Transport departments, the Pollution Control Board, and law enforcement agencies are also actively involved in these initiatives. Furthermore, vehicles engaged in the transportation of minerals from neighboring states without the necessary documentation are subject to penalties under the Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act of 1957.
